Jason, who leads Barr’s office in Bismarck, North Dakota, works on projects involving civil engineering and water resources. He has more than 10 years of experience in civil design and construction management.
Like many of his colleagues at Barr, Jason Westbrock became interested in environmental science early. Spending summers at a family cabin in northern Minnesota, he developed a love of nature—especially lakes and rivers. This, along with a strong aptitude for math and science and a deep curiosity about how things work, led him to study civil engineering at Montana State University.
Today he’s one of Barr’s senior civil engineers, designing systems that help with flooding, water quality, erosion, and stormwater management. The best parts of his job, he says, are working with smart clients to solve complex problems, and collaborating with Barr’s team of dedicated professionals. Among his coworkers, he’s known as someone who is outgoing, genuinely interested in the people around him, and eager to help younger staff members get involved in challenging, high-profile projects.
In 2008, the Twin Cities native relocated from Minneapolis and quickly discovered the virtues of living in Bismarck. "I love the easy commutes, the access to natural resources, and the fabulous people," Jason says, adding, "and, of course, the easier winters."
When he’s not working, Jason enjoys boating, photography, and getting outdoors.
