Aisha Balogh is what one might call an environmental pioneer. From a young age, she took an interest in the health of the environment—even spearheading an environmental club in the fourth grade. After grappling with the idea of medical school, Aisha found her calling in the brand-new environmental science program at the University of Minnesota Duluth—and was part of its first graduating class.

Today, her work centers on environmental permitting and compliance assistance for a variety of industrial clients. Aisha enjoys projects that allow her to explore all aspects of environmental compliance and interact with clients face to face. She is especially proud of her work at Calumet Superior Refining’s distribution terminals in Minnesota and Wisconsin. “The terminal operators know I have their backs,” said Aisha, who now works in Barr's office in Jefferson City, Missouri. “We’ve developed a close trusted-advisor relationship.”

Outside of work, too, Aisha is eager to chart new territory. She participated in a semester-at-sea program in college, living on a ship for four months while visiting 12 countries—a big adjustment for someone who had never left the U.S. or even seen the ocean before!

During her free time, Aisha likes to travel, fish, read, bake, paint, and do craft projects—including “upcycling” furniture. “I enjoy my job because it exercises the technical and analytical left side of my brain,” she explained. “My hobbies tend to be more right-side oriented, satisfying my creativity and imagination.”

Whether in work or play, Aisha follows her strong sense of adventure. “I love learning new things and welcome new challenges,” she said.
