Barr staff to present at SME Minnesota Conference

Sixteen staff members from Barr are scheduled to present at the 92nd Annual Meeting of the Minnesota Section of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) on April 15–17 in Duluth, Minnesota. 

On the morning of Monday, April 15, Philip Solseng will teach a short course on “Integrated Alternative Tailings Management,” and on Tuesday, April 16, the following presentations will occur:
  • Phil Fish and Todd Fasking will discuss “Recent EPA Policy Changes and Your Mining Facility: Overview, Opportunities, Risks, and Examples”
  • Nick Sosalla, Dennis Murr, Boyd Eisenbraun will present “A Review of Changing Iron Ore Demands for Alternate Iron Making Technologies”
  • Kurt Schimpke will discuss the “Fundamentals of Tailings Liquefaction — What Owners and Operators Need to Know”
  • Rachel Walker will cover “The Minnesota Sulfate Rule to Protect Wild Rice”
  • Rachel Leier  will present on “Seepage Control Cutoff in an Extreme Saline Environment
  • Jessica Olson and Pete Kero will discuss “Emergency Response to Historic Pit Mine Washout Leads to Improved Resiliency, Functionality and Aesthetics”
On the morning of Wednesday, April 17, Erik Boleman and Andrew Skoglund present “Seeing Through the Haze: Navigating the Complexities of the EPA’s Regional Haze Rule” and Chad Haugen and Christine Lucky discuss “Production of Rare Earth Element Concentrates from North Dakotan Lignite Coal.” Also, Jeff Davis will chair the reclamation session on Tuesday and Wednesday.
