The person selected for this position will work on a variety of engineering consulting projects involving traditional geotechnical engineering analysis and design for foundations (shallow and deep); slope stability and seepage; bearing capacity; settlement; pavements; retaining walls; and dam evaluations. Responsibilities also include performing field investigations, overseeing subcontracted investigation services, geotechnical engineering analysis using computer modeling; specifying, implementing and interpreting soil and rock investigations including drilling, cone penetrometer and in-situ testing; instrumentation installation and monitoring; overseeing on-site and laboratory testing; and writing reports. The position involves field work such as construction quality assurance observation and geotechnical field investigations. The position will include executing project management scope, schedule and budget compliance and will require interfacing and collaborating on these projects with engineers in other Barr offices. This position will require travel for out-of-town work assignments to meet the needs of our clients.

NOTE: Some work will feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment. Safety training will be provided prior to being given work assignments on these sites. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in civil engineering with a geotechnical emphasis
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience with traditional geotechnical engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or ability to obtain a PE within two years
  • Strong technical skills in a wide range of geotechnical analysis and design
  • Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meet project deadlines and client needs
  • Ability and willingness to travel to client locations and other Barr offices
  • Computer skills, including AutoCAD, modeling software (such as FLAC, Plaxis, and GeoStudio), design software for deep foundations, word processing, and spreadsheets
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in civil engineering with a geotechnical emphasis
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience
  • Proven project or task management skills
  • Strong technical skills in a wide range of geotechnical analysis and design
  • Experience scoping, contracting, executing, and managing advanced geotechnical field investigations, in-situ testing, and laboratory testing
  • Strong, proven business development skills
  • Interest in mining engineering, power generation facilities, pipeline facilities, transportation and fuels industries
  • Proven experience collaborating and maintaining relationships across offices
