Barr is seeking an engineer with demonstrated experience leading, managing, and mentoring multi-discipline project teams as a practice builder. This position provides the opportunity to build a practice around a core team to work on a variety of consulting projects involving traditional geotechnical engineering designs such as shallow and deep foundations; slope stability; seepage; bearing capacity; settlement; pavements; retaining walls; and dams. Projects focus on geotechnical and civil engineering design and analysis and include the preparation of plans and specifications, planning and oversight of investigations and analysis, writing technical reports, and cost estimating. The position will include project management for scope, schedule, and budget compliance, and will require working with engineers in other Barr offices. Administrative responsibilities such as business development, project management, mentoring and coaching, project planning and scheduling, and workload estimating make up a significant part of this role. This position will require out-of-town work assignments to meet the needs of our clients including field work such as client meetings and presentations, construction review, and facility inspections.

NOTE: Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites and to enter and work within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. While the position is located in the Calgary office, fulfillment of the position responsibilities will require periodic travel. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
