Summary

The person selected for this position will work on a variety of engineering consulting projects involving traditional geotechnical engineering analysis and design for foundations (shallow and deep); slope stability and seepage; earth retention, dams and hydraulic structures; and groundwater. As part of project teams performing geotechnical, civil, and structural engineering designs, your work will include specifying, implementing, and interpreting soil and rock investigations including drilling and in-situ testing; overseeing on-site and laboratory testing; performing facility inspections, geotechnical computer modeling, installation and interpretation of geotechnical instrumentation, overseeing design and assessment, preparation of design plans and specifications; and writing reports. Administrative work, such as business development, project management, project planning and scheduling, mentoring and coaching less-experienced staff members, and workload estimation are also part of this role. This position may require limited, out-of-town work assignments to meet clients' needs.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a geotechnical emphasis
  • Five or more years of relevant work experience with traditional geotechnical engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or ability to obtain a PE within one year
  • Strong technical skills in a wide range of geotechnical analysis and design
  • Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meet project deadlines and client needs
  • Proven experience collaborating and maintaining relationships across offices
  • Willingness to travel as required for projects
  • Computer skills, including modeling software (such as GeoStudio), design software for deep foundations (Apile, Lpile, AllPile, CT-Shoring), Autocad, word processing, and spreadsheets
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing approximately 50 or more pounds
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record


Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in civil engineering with a geotechnical emphasis
  • Seven or more years of relevant work experience with traditional geotechnical engineering
  • Proven project or task management skills
  • Experience scoping, contracting, executing, and managing advanced geotechnical field investigations, in-situ testing, and laboratory testing
  • Strong, proven business development skills


NOTE: Some work locations will feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment. Safety training will be provided prior to being given work assignments on these sites.
