Summary

The person selected for this position will have the opportunity to work on project teams assisting clients with air quality permitting, environmental compliance, and related technical assignments. Work will include participating in preparing emission inventories; chemical mass balances; monitoring plans; permit applications; technical and economic feasibility studies for pollution-control equipment and processes; and written reports. Responsibilities may also involve waste management; spill prevention, control, and countermeasures plans; risk management plans; and site evaluations and investigations. In addition, the job may require working with permitting agencies and on site at client facilities.

This is part time position, with no guaranteed number of hours per week. The person selected for this role will become involved in projects on a as-needed basis driven by project opportunities, skill set alignment and employee availability.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical, or environmental engineering or related scientific degree
  • Five years of professional experience working with state and federal air permits such as PSD/NSR, Title V, and state air construction permits
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators and clients
  • Demonstrated ability to fulfill commitments on schedule and to do what it takes to meet clients’ service expectations and requirements
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills, including attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness, as well as a commitment to producing high-quality deliverables
  • Effectiveness in building working relationships and working on multidiscipline project teams across multiple geographies.
  • Superior task and project management skills, including scheduling, prioritizing, and following-up.
  • A flexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedules as required to meet project deadlines and/or client needs
  • Self-initiative and motivation with an emphasis on client service and cultivating a career in environmental consulting
  • Ability to travel to client locations and other Barr offices
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record


Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineering or scientific knowledge and experience in the power, refining, pipeline, ethanol, and/or mining industries
  • Demonstrated organization and management skills
  • Ability to identify problem symptoms and causes, and develop and evaluate alternative solutions
  • Aptitude for developing client relationships and business


NOTE: Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites and to enter and work within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required; safety training will be provided.
