Summary

The Human Resources Associate is part of a rotation program at Barr, designed to give cross-functional HR exposure to entry-level staff and prepare them to carry out a variety of generalist duties. The rotation will include periods of approximately 15-18 months working in support of staffing, recruiting, and onboarding; training and development; and HR compliance, processes, and projects. The person selected for this position will enter the Associate program in the compliance, processes, and projects role.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Gathering and verifying data needed for compliance reporting and working with our external vendor to prepare accurate and timely reports as needed for submittals to fulfill compliance obligations and obtain needed certifications (e.g. EEO and Affirmative Action reporting)
  • Monitoring and bringing forward information about legislative changes that may impact our employee policies and practices in the U.S. and Canada
  • Assisting with updates to our HR policies and practices, including gathering input, drafting text, coordinating legal review when needed, and communicating changes to staff.
  • Maintaining the human resources page on the company’s intranet site
  • Acting as a backup for key HR processes in peak seasons, such as college recruiting, interview scheduling, training event support, and benefits open enrollment
  • Creating and updating accurate practice documentation for key processes, as prioritized
  • Supporting preparation, administration, and analysis of results for periodic employee engagement surveys
  • Participating on internal teams tasked with carrying out strategic, corporate HR initiatives

  • Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related area with coursework relevant to the practice of Human Resources
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, and experience providing proactive, high-quality service to internal and external clients
    • Strong team mentality with a willingness to assist where needed to contribute to the group’s success
    • Solid critical thinking skills and ability to bring forward situationally appropriate solutions to challenges
    • Excellent attention to detail
    • Ability to self-direct, prioritize and negotiate multiple responsibilities and client requests, completing tasks with minimal supervision
    • Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to modify plans to meet deadlines and client needs
    • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
    • Acceptable driving record


    Preferred Qualifications

    • HR internship experience in areas of practice described above
    • Above-average Excel skills
    • HRIS and Applicant Tracking System (ATS) experience, including report writing
