Summary

Barr is seeking an engineering student to work on projects involving civil and geotechnical engineering and related technical field assignments. Project assignments may include design and analysis; AutoCAD/Civil 3D drafting and design; field sampling and data collection; preparation of construction plans and specifications; spreadsheet preparation; short report preparation; laboratory testing and construction inspection/observation. The work may involve out-of-town assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3.2 grade-point average (4.0 scale)
  • At least two semesters of physics and three semesters of mathematics
  • Ongoing enrollment in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, or related degree program
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows OS and Microsoft Office software
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, and clients
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
  • Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedules to meet project needs
  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record


Preferred Qualifications

  • 3.5 grade-point average (4.0 scale)
  • Familiarity with gINT, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D or other CADD-based civil design software
  • Completion of at least one semester of third year engineering coursework
  • Previous engineering, field, or geotechnical experience
  • Ability to work in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship


NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients. Must be able to safely lift and carry 13.6 kg.
