The person selected for this position will work with the Compensation & Benefits Manager, payroll staff, external vendors, and Barr employees to administer benefits in the United States and Canada. This position reports to the Compensation & Benefits Manager as a part of the Corporate Human Resources team.

Primary responsibilities involve administration of employee health/welfare and retirement benefits. This includes advising employees and internal stakeholders on benefit and policy-related matters, processing benefit changes, and entering benefit information into the Human Resources information system (HRIS) and vendor systems. The person in this position will also coordinate employee leaves including Family Medical Leave, disability pay, and unpaid leave.

Duties also include coordinating benefit payments with payroll, maintaining accurate benefit records, assisting with benefit compliance obligations (including Affordable Care Act, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, and Cafeteria Plan reporting and notices), assisting with annual open enrollment, coordinating employee benefit communications, reconciling benefit invoices, recommending and implementing improvements to benefit procedures, and coordinating benefit-related educational events. In addition, this person will spend a portion of their time assisting with compensation duties, including annual salary setting, and other HR-related efforts as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business or HR or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and benefits experience
  • Outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive, learn quickly, and be self-directed
  • High proficiency in MS Office programs including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Experience in customer service and process administration
  • Positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, and experience providing responsive service to internal and external clients
  • Ability to prioritize multiple client requests and complete tasks with minimal supervision
  • Critical thinking skills with the ability to problem solve
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines or client needs
  • Acceptable driving record
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two-plus years of experience in administering health and welfare, retirement benefits, and leave processing
  • Knowledge of benefit and payroll regulations such as Family Medical Leave Act, COBRA, ADA, Cafeteria 125 plans, ERISA, and Affordable Care Act
  • Experience handling and maintaining highly sensitive and confidential information
  • Experience providing HR administrative support and documenting or improving procedures
  • Benefits or HR-related certification
  • Experience administering salary setting and other elements of compensation
