Summary

Barr is seeking an environmental consultant to join its growing Salt Lake City office and undertake challenging and progressive work on projects related to the investigation, evaluation, and remediation of contaminated sites. The selected candidate will have a role in client service, project execution, internal team coordination, mentoring junior staff, and business development activities. Project work may include coordinating ASTM Phase I environmental site assessments; investigating contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, and vapor intrusion; conducting remediation technology evaluations and feasibility studies; developing site management strategies and response action plans; and coordinating site remediation activities. Business-development activities will include building and maintaining client relationships, tracking marketing leads and project opportunities, developing proposals and presentations, networking, and sharing Barr’s capabilities with existing and potential clients.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology or civil, environmental, geological, or chemical engineering or related degree
  • 8 or more years of relevant work experience
  • Strong technical and problem solving skills
  • Thorough knowledge and experience working with state and federal environmental, waste and water regulations
  • Demonstrated project organization and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated client-relationship and business development skills
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
  • Strong computer skills, including word processing and complex spreadsheets
  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
  • Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedules to meet project needs
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record


Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in geology or civil, environmental, geological or chemical engineering or related degree
  • 15 or more years of relevant work experience
  • Registration as a professional engineer or geologist in Utah or the ability to obtain it within a year
  • Established network with area clients and the ability to develop or foster ongoing relationships and maintain a high level of client service
  • Familiarity with Utah DEQ environmental regulations
  • Familiarity with Utah DNR Oil, Gas, and Mining regulations and policies


NOTE:Applicants must be able to work in remote locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction and mining sites and to enter and work within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste-disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. Safety training will be provided before being assigned to work on these sites.
