Summary

Barr is seeking a Structural Engineer to join its Salt Lake City, Utah team to work on multi-discipline project teams providing structural engineering and related technical expertise. Project assignments may include design and analysis, project management, preparation of plans and specifications, report writing, cost estimating, and construction observation. Clients will be primarily industrial, power, manufacturing, refinery, and mining companies. The work may at times require short-term, out-of-town work assignments.

This individual will also have an opportunity to play a role in day-to-day client service and business development. Business development activities may include building and maintaining client relationships, tracking of marketing leads and project opportunities, development of proposals and presentations, and networking and working to inform clients of the full range of capabilities offered by the firm.


Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in civil or structural engineering (including structural analysis, steel and concrete design)
  • 8 years of experience directly related to the job responsibilities described above
  • Licensed Structural Engineer (SE)
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
  • Willingness to work in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative
  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
  • Demonstrated project organization and management skills
  • Work experience with AutoCAD and structural engineering analysis software such as RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, or MathCAD
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record


Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of related work experience
  • M.S in civil or structural engineering
  • Experience with 3D software such as Revit
  • Strong technical and problem solving skills in a wide range of structural analysis and design
  • Experience in the consulting industry
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with teams of multiple disciplines
  • Demonstrated business development and client relationship development skills
  • Established network with area clients and the ability to develop or foster ongoing relationships and maintain a high level of client service


NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. An OSHA mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
