Summary

The business intelligence developer will help modernize and advance Barr’s business intelligence and data capabilities. The person in this position will support our internal data warehouse and meet reporting needs as well as the data needs of the company’s clients. This role offers an opportunity to get in on the ground floor and lead the advancement of our data-related capabilities using the latest cloud-based tools. The ideal candidate is passionate about data and looking to work in an environment offering opportunities for significant professional growth and development of expertise.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Continuing design and development of Barr’s enterprise data warehouse, dashboarding, and self-service reporting ecosystem using the Microsoft Business Intelligence toolset (SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS tabular, SSRS, Power BI, Azure)
  • Supporting external client projects that require data collection (IOT, web-based sources, internal system), transformation, storage, analysis, and visualization
  • Working with business analysts and other employees to elicit and clearly document BI requirements
  • Writing complex queries
  • Designing and developing database objects (such as databases, tables, views, and stored procedures) within a normalized and dimensional data warehouse environment
  • Developing, maintaining, and supporting ETL processes (SSIS & replication)
  • Using Power BI, Excel, SSRS and other tools to create reports, dashboards, and other data visualizations
  • Creating and supporting data dictionaries
  • Developing auditing and quality assurance practices to ensure accuracy of the data warehouse and reporting
  • Mentoring business unit employees to advance their data capabilities and understanding

  • Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, analytics, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field
    • Five years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, or statistical roles
    • Experience developing data warehouse and analytical tools for business purposes
    • Advanced SQL skills (SQL Server)
    • Proficiency in MS SQL technologies (e.g. SSIS, SSRS, SSAS - Tabular)
    • Experience developing with MS BI technologies including Power BI & DAX
    • Strong organizational skills, including ability to plan, monitor, and follow through on work commitments and confirm priorities with stakeholders
    • High level of commitment to delivering exceptional client service
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
    • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
    • Acceptable driving record


    Preferred Qualifications

    • Knowledge of data warehouse development processes and techniques, including dimensional modeling
    • Familiarity with Office 365 and Azure technologies such as Data Factory, Data Lake, IOT Hub, Stream Analytics, SharePoint Online, Power Apps
    • Familiarity with AI, Machine Learning, and Data Science concepts and tools (such as R, Python, and MATLAB)
    • Strong understanding of security within an integrated on-premise and cloud-based business intelligence environment
