This position offers an opportunity to contribute and learn as part of a progressive and innovative design team providing landscape architecture, landscape ecology, and environmental engineering and planning services to Barr’s clients. The person in this position will work on landscape architectural site design projects, such as parks design, campus master planning, trails and open spaces design, and innovative stormwater treatment design, as well as native plant community restoration and natural resource management planning. Project work will integrate sustainable landscape design principles with traditional landscape architecture.

The person in this role will assist Barr’s landscape architects, civil engineers, and natural resources group members with design and planning projects. Much of the work will involve assisting with construction plans and detailing, illustrative renderings, sections, perspectives, and info-graphics. Responsibilities will also include producing detailed cost estimates and technical specifications related to the designs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture
  • One to two years of professional experience in landscape design
  • Experience drafting landscape construction plans including grading, planting plans, sections, and detailing
  • Understanding of native plant communities
  • Ability to create detailed and attractive renderings, section/elevations, infographics, and diagrams for client and public presentations
  • Demonstrated talent for document layout, graphic design, and presentation creation
  • Interest in working towards professional registration
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to draft, design, and detail landscape construction elements
  • Experience writing technical specifications
  • Experience preparing design and construction cost estimates
  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
  • Self-driven and independently motivated to move tasks and projects forward with minimal guidance or direction
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, and clients
  • Experience with construction specifications and cost estimation
  • Experience with AutoCAD and the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Understanding of GIS principles
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in landscape architecture
  • Proficiency and significant experience with design software
  • Proficiency with GIS tools
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Revit, Autodesk 3ds Max, or similar artistic rendering software
  • Experience observing construction in the field and working with contractors to interpret plans and specifications

NOTE: Must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites, and may also require entering and working within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. An OSHA mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided.
