Summary

Barr is seeking a civil technician to join its Jefferson City, Missouri, team to undertake challenging and progressive work on projects involving data collection, planning, and problem solving in the civil engineering field. The person selected for this position will work on multidiscipline project teams, providing computer-aided drafting expertise with AutoCAD on a Windows platform with an emphasis on Civil 3D. Typical duties consist of working with engineers to create, update, and revise drawings of civil, mechanical, electrical, and structural systems.

Project responsibilities include developing and managing project CAD file structure, basefiles, planimetrics, design surfaces, pipe drafting networks, and construction drawings and renderings, as well as determining quantities for cost estimating and report preparation. Additional responsibilities may include construction observation, surveying, and monitoring. The work may at times involve out-of-town assignments.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Two-year technical certificate or experience/coursework directly related to the job responsibilities described above
  • Five years of experience with civil engineering project design, layout, and production drafting workflow
  • Proficiency in current versions of AutoCAD and Civil 3D or other CADD-based civil design software
  • Strong technical and problem solving skills
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients
  • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with project team members in a high-energy working environment that encourages self-initiative
  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record


Preferred Qualifications

  • Eight or more years of experience working on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above
  • Experience in the consulting industry
  • Familiarity with additional drafting packages such as Revit, MicroStation, Geopak, ArcGIS, Excel, and word processing software
  • Familiarity with work in an industrial environment and basic knowledge of various industrial disciplines and industrial construction


NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
