Summary

Barr is seeking an environmental specialist to join its Duluth office and undertake challenging and fast-paced work on environmental permitting and compliance projects. Assigned work tasks may include working with a team of people in coordinating field inspections and supporting field staff; interpreting environmental permits and regulations for project applicability; development and implementation of erosion and sediment control plans, construction stormwater plans, and restoration plans; reviewing field reports to verify environmental compliance; communicating with regulatory agencies and client contacts; conducting environmental reviews and permitting; and preparing permit applications. The selected candidate will work with other Barr staff, as well as with regulatory staff, clients and subcontractors.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in physical, natural, or environmental science
  • Superior task-management skills, including scheduling, prioritizing, and follow-up
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators, and clients
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with state and federal environmental regulations, permitting processes, and/or field compliance for utility corridor projects
  • Experience with soil erosion and sedimentation control plans, construction storm water plans, and site restoration plans
  • Experience with field environmental inspection programs


NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
