Summary

Barr is looking to fill an eight-month environmental engineering co-op in its Calgary office. The person selected for this position will begin in May and will work with multidiscipline teams providing field support, engineering analysis, studies, and designs for industrial clients in the oil sands, fuels, and mining industries. Project responsibilities may include coordinating and executing technical programs (monitoring, sampling, reporting) for large-scale field programs, conducting site investigations, overseeing on-site and bench-scale testing, evaluating and interpreting laboratory and field data, assisting with geotechnical and environmental designs, estimating costs, preparing plans, and writing detailed technical reports. Field work opportunities for this position will be year-round and will likely include out-of-town travel for up to two weeks at a time.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Chemical, environmental or geological engineering major, with coursework directly related to the responsibilities described above
  • Minimum 3.0 grade-point average on 4.0 scale
  • Third- or fourth-year student, with a minimum of one full-time semester of undergraduate or graduate course work remaining after the co-op
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators, and clients
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
  • Strong computer skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheets

Summary

Barr is seeking a geology student to work on challenging geotechnical and civil engineering projects involving coordination of field activities, data collection, and problem-solving. Project responsibilities may include drilling observation and field crew coordination; geotechnical drilling and instrumentation estimates; surveying; vibration monitoring; and geotechnical construction observation. Preparation of drilling logs, geologic maps, cross-sections, and technical reports will be expected in this role. Onsite investigation tasks may include classifying soil and bedrock samples, and collecting samples for field screening and laboratory analysis. The work will involve frequent out-of-town assignments.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Ongoing enrollment in a Geology degree program, or related

Summary

The person selected for this position will work on air-quality projects involving environmental monitoring and problem-solving. The work will include air-emissions sampling and data collection at industrial facilities, monitoring equipment calibration and maintenance, laboratory analysis and data reduction, and assistance with report preparation for submittal to clients and regulatory authorities. This role also may assist with ambient air-quality monitoring, indoor air-quality sampling, and meteorological data collection and processing. Work will include both travel to and work at client facilities and completion of responsibilities in the Minneapolis office.

Internship will involve taking on challenging and progressive work on projects involving design, planning, and problem-solving in the civil and structural engineering field. Project responsibilities may include design using CADD modeling software and assistance with construction plans and specifications. These activities will be related to the design of two dimensional (2D) and three dimensional (3D) modeling. The intern in this position will support our internal project teams by creating, preparing, modifying and managing drawings, specifications and models for design documents. The work will be primarily related to industrial processing facilities, power plants, refineries, and other heavy industrial facilities.
