Bike park a model for new age of reclamation Seeing an opportunity in the cut valleys and pushed-together mountains of the former mine near Chisholm, Minnesota, Senior Environmental Engineer Pete Kero imagined what would eventually become Redhead Mountain Bike Park, an area reclaimed for recreational use after mining activity ended there more than 40 years ago.

Bike park a model for new age of reclamation

Since the early 1970s, mine reclamation efforts have progressed modestly. But Redhead Mountain Bike Park in northern Minnesota was a giant leap, offering an expansive view of how closed minelands can be repurposed for public enjoyment.
