Barr announces scholarship recipient

Barr is pleased to announce the first recipient of our Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) scholarship in memory of Jon McNelis and Derek Schluessler, two beloved colleagues who we lost earlier this year.

The scholarship was awarded to a second-year student at DCTC, who is earning an associate of applied science degree to become a civil engineer technician. Barr’s scholarship will help fund the recipient’s education materials and allow her to attend school fulltime.

“It means that I can continue to learn how to make a better world for my community,” she said. She also hopes to encourage more women to study in the STEM field.

Jon was Barr’s Civil 3D guru for more than 10 years, and Derek was a civil technician with a focus on 3D scanning for eight years. Both were integral parts of Barr’s civil technology group and were heavily engaged in the civil technology program at DCTC.

The scholarship is funded over a three-year period and will help provide financial aid to students in DCTC’s civil technology program. Staff, family, friends, and others can also donate in Jon and Derek’s honor. To make a gift donation, please follow the instructions below.
