Nicole Nguyen talks about coal plant of the future

Barr chemical engineer Nicole Nguyen was recently interviewed on Bismarck-Mandan’s KFYR Radio for its “Energy Matters” program. Nicole spoke about Barr’s work on projects funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s CoalFIRST program, which aims to develop coal plants of the future.

Nicole discussed how Barr is teaming with Doosan Heavy Industries, Envergex, Microbeam Technologies, the University of North Dakota’s Institute of Energy Studies, and MLJ Consulting to develop an innovative hybrid gas/coal concept power-plant design. Our concept combines a 250-MW coal-fired power plant, a 80-MW natural-gas-fired turbine, and carbon-capture technology to provide secure, stable, and reliable power with very low air emissions and minimal waste and water use.
