Senior landscape architect/ecologist Fred Rozumalski is showcased in the May/June issue of Northern Gardener, a publication of the Minnesota State Horticultural Society. For more than two decades, Fred has designed landscapes that support a diversity of plants and animals while meeting the needs of people. He also lectures on ecologically sound landscape design.
A seven-page article filled with full-color photos, the story features Fred’s home garden and kicks off with a provocative quote from him: “I won’t have a plant [that requires a lot of water] because I’m not going to water it.” He then explains his approach to creating a low-maintenance, sustainable yard in an area with lots of shade and sandy soil. The article describes more than a dozen plants selected by Fred that create combinations of color and textures while thriving in a space with minimal sun and water.
