Auxiliary boiler installation

About this project

DTE Energy – Detroit Edison
Location
Michigan
Cost
$1.3 million (Barr's fees)
Completion date
2016

Barr provided a wide range of services for the installation of three new natural-gas-fired auxiliary boilers (two 75,000-pounds-per-hour boilers and one 60,000-pounds-per-hour boiler) at DTE Energy’s Trenton Channel Power Plant to replace four coal-fired boilers.

Our services included analysis and design of structural steel, supports, and concrete foundations; analysis and design of piping systems; design of power distribution and control panels; and construction support.

The natural-gas-fired boilers were part of the utility’s energy generation transformation to upgrade the aging facility (constructed in Trenton, Michigan, in the 1920s) and meet U.S. EPA mercury and air toxic standards.
