The 79-turbine Quality Wind facility in northeastern British Columbia stands near the town of Tumbler Ridge. Working with Capital Power Corporation and Mortenson Construction, Barr designed the site’s turbine foundations, conducted geotechnical investigations, and provided construction oversight.
Our foundation-engineering services included preliminary work to support late-phase project development and construction-cost estimating, as well as design-phase engineering to facilitate full construction of the project. We conducted a comprehensive geotechnical investigation to assess subsurface conditions, and provided recommendations for the design and construction of turbine foundations and other project infrastructure. In addition, we provided on-site and technical support for excavation and construction of each foundation.
Each turbine has a nameplate capacity of 1.8 megawatts, contributing to a total generation of 142 megawatts—enough electricity to power about 43,000 homes.
